Dope Songs From 1991

1991 had a terrific list of hits and singles. Rather than flood one post with tons of them, it’s best to highlight a few each time.

Brenda’s Got a Baby

The majority of music and hip hop fans often associate Tupac with Death Row and the entire Thug Life culture. Truth is, he was far more of a hip hop MC than he was a gangsta rapper, especially early on with his first album, 2Pacalpyse Now. He had a true voice for social issues and utilized his iconic delivery to rap about such things as he does on this song, one of his most underrated singles.

November Rain – Guns N’ Roses

There have been rock ballads for as long as we can remember but this may just be the best of them all. It is an epic song, the longest tune that Guns N’ Roses ever released and the music video that accompanies it gives it the perfect aesthetic to go along with the lyrics. At nearly nine minutes long, it remains the longest song to ever reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Despite GNR’s usual hard-hitting rock, this love song is one of their best jams ever.

I Don’t Wanna Cry – Mariah Carey

This tune would be the final single off of Carey’s debut album and while it is not exactly the happiest of songs, the vocals behind it are stunning yet beautiful. It also indicated a dramatic and serious tone from Carey that was prevalent on all three of her singles from her first album before she veered down a more positive and uptempo bath on her second album. Great break-up song regardless.
